Portland Named Host Site for 2028 NCAA DI Women’s Basketball Regional

City chosen to host Division I NCAA basketball tournament event for seventh time since 2019

The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee today announced that Portland has been selected to host the regional rounds of the 2028 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.

Women’s regional play will take place at Moda Center in Portland and Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. between March 24-27, 2028.

The selection marks the seventh time Portland has been chosen to host an NCAA Division I basketball tournament event since 2019. Portland last hosted regional play in the women’s tournament earlier this year and is set to host the 2030 Women’s Final Four.

“We are unbelievably excited for the NCAA to once again choose Portland and Oregon for its marquee women’s basketball tournament,” said Sport Oregon CEO Jim Etzel. “With a Women’s Final Four on the horizon for 2030, this event will further build momentum in our community to showcase Portland as the epicenter of women’s basketball.”

Previously, Portland was selected to host women’s regionals in 2019 and 2020. The city played host to men’s first- and second-round games of the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and is slated to host the same in 2026.

The University of Portland will serve as the host school for the 2028 NCAA Women’s Regional, serving in the same capacity for the 2030 Women’s Final Four. Sport Oregon, the Rose Quarter and the University of Portland submitted their bid to host the 2028 Women’s Regional in February 2024.

In addition to Portland, the NCAA announced more than 240 host sites today, the result of a new championship bid cycle.
