The Women’s International Champions Cup (WICC) returns to Portland this summer and will again feature four trophy-winning teams all vying to be crowned the women’s club world champion.
The four participants have each qualified for the 2022 WICC by winning championships in their 2021-22 tournaments, competitions, and leagues:
The 2021 WICC defending champions, Portland Thorns, qualified as winners of the 2021 NWSL Shield and 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup.
Olympique Lyonnais, 2019 WICC champions, qualified as winners of the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League and 2021-22 D1 Féminine
C.F. Monterrey will be the first team from Mexico to compete in the WICC, having qualified as the Torneo Grita México Apertura 2021 champions.
Chelsea FC Women’s will also make their first WICC appearance, qualified as winners of both the 2021-22 FA Women’s Super League and 2022 Women’s FA Cup.
The tournament will take place at Providence Park and consists of four matches played as two doubleheaders (1 ticket = 2 games).
